What Your Eye Contact Reveals

While I was reading about some eye body language stories I came across an article that made we want to share the info with you:

Up and to the Left (your left, his right)
Indicates: Visually Constructed Images
If you asked someone to “Imagine a purple buffalo”, this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they “Visually Constructed” a purple buffalo in their mind.

Up and to the Right
Indicates: Visually Remembered Images
If you asked someone to “What color was the first house you lived in?”, this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they “Visually Remembered” the color of their childhood home.

To the Left
Indicates: Constructed Sounds
If you asked someone to “Try and create the highest the sound of the pitch possible in your head”, this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they “Auditorily Constructed” this this sound that they have never heard of.

To the Right
Indicates: Remembered Sounds
If you asked someone to “Remember what their mother’s voice sounds like “, this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they

Down and to the Left
Indicates: Sensations/ Kinesthetic
If you asked someone to “Can you remember the smell of a campfire? “, this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they used recalled a smell, feeling, or taste.

How to Dress for Your Goals

This week-end a woman I work with, came to me and told me: “I never thought you would be like this! I only saw you in a work context. I never thought you would wear these cloth nor did I think we would be dancing like that together”. And it made me think… It’s true I only saw her in a work context before, but it’s also true she only saw be with the same type of cloth and the same style (before we bumped into each other in the same party on Saturday night). So I started researching on the matter and would like to share with you my thoughts…

We all have our comfort cloth, or last minute back-up dressing plan and our every day style. But sometimes, and in some situations we want to look different, give a distinct impression or use our physical appearance to get to a particular goal and her is how to do it…

To look more professional: It’s not just about meeting the “office-dress-code-sterotype”. It’s about going one step higher. So to look more professional than the day before you should just do one little extra effort so as to go from business casual to business appropriate, or from appropriate to corporate, or from corporate to stylishly ruling-the-world-corporate.

To look more trustworthy: Wear easy colors. Avoid the black and the pop colors. Beige, light blue, white or pink would perfectly do the trick.

To show more authority: Give more attention to details. Wear cufflinks, have impeccable nails and a blow-dry, wear make-up (not to strong not too light), be comfortable in big heels, wear a matching scarf. But please don’t over do it!!!

To look more creative: Black usually does the trick ;)

To give an impression of Independence: Have a trademark. Give yourself a bohemian, sporty, arty or chic look. Any look! But make sure you have one that you can embrace fully.

To look more friendly: First know you audience! Who are you trying to be friendly with? Try to always dress appropriately to the situation while still looking cool and approachable. Wearing a smile and happy colors (rainbow colors) is a good idea.

You want to look organized: To look organized it just takes some small details: have a tidy office and an organized desk. Keep your shoes polished, and you pants well ironed. Small details count.

Whatever you do always remember that a lot of people do judge a book by it’s cover so if you’re looking to give a certain impression remember to dress the part the part and the role will flow naturally. half the job would have been done!

And please never forget it’s only a impression you want to give to serve a certain goal! We like you like you are! So don’t play roles for too long. It would be sad.

It’s Funny How People Sleep at Night… what your pajamas says about you?

These are phrases I often hear: “I couldn’t sleep that night”, “I was so tired I fell asleep with my cloths on on the couch”,  “This story annoyed me so much I couldn’t sleep” or “How can you sleep like this?”

But we often disregard the part before going to bed: the part where we choose our pajamas…What does it really say about us?

 1. If  you’re a girl and wear baby dolls and/or nightgowns to bed, you most probably are full of yourself and looking good is one of your big priorities… You are sensitive and passionate.

2. If you’re a girl and sleep with nothing on, you’re independent, you love challenges and you have a hidden sexy and wild side in you.

3. If you’re a girl and wear thick pajamas, you are a loving and thoughtful person, you like to live outdoors and enjoy exciting activities.

4. If you’re a girl and wear whatever is available, you’re probably very easy to live. You’re fun and people love spending time with you.

5. If you’re a man, and wear pajamas, you hate stupid talks, enjoy hard work, love outdoor activities and are direct and honest.

6. If you are a man and sleep with shorts or boxers, you are a caring men. You’re good at remembering dates and noticing details.

7. If you’re a man and sleep with a t-shirt, you are cool and calm. You cannot be easily impressed by superficiality. You also have the energy at work.

8. If you’re a man and sleep with no pajamas on, you are fast, sharp, confident, impressive and goal-oriented.

Super tired and going to bed… I wonder how will I sleep tonight… :)

Who’s Behind this Beard (or None) – how to tell a man by his facial hair?

I’ve had a fun and long week-end… I am still sick and thus had to stay home at night. Still I managed to go to Amchit for a young and hip pool party, then to Dhour el Choueir for a charming baby shower; I had lunch in a 300 year-old typical Lebanese house 20 minutes away from Aley (I still don’t know how we got there. The road was so confusing) and calmed down with White Coffee and 2 impressive women…

So, as you can imagine I saw a lot of people, but what most got my attention this week-end was the difference in attitude of everyone I cam across and mainly the men. So I wondered how can a group of men all wearing a jeans, a shirt, converse or hogan look and feel so different… The attitude of course! But the beard can hide some little adorable secrets too…

Here they are…

The Full Beard

If the beard is solid, sharp and impeccable then the man is most probably extremely manly and full of charisma.

If with his beard he looks more like a caveman, he is trying to hide his shyness and laziness behind his big beard.

The Goatee

It depends on how it is done, but in general it is a mature style. Younger men with goatee are trying to prove something or impose an opinion. Older men think they have the right to wear the goatee because they just “have it”.

The Mustache

The mustache  is the most annoying part of the beards, it makes it harder to kiss ;) . These man (with not too eccentric mustaches) are not afraid of challenges, and seek new horizons and new adventures. However if the mustache is too long, too colored or too designed, the man is probably looking to impress and has nothing more to show.

In any case, they have no shame and rarely feel threatened by anything.

The Overall Scruff or the Combo

If it isn’t the beginning of a beard, look at the overall look, he might be in it to charm girls and hide his childish look, or he might just be a cool spoiled daddy’s boy artist. In any case, he is probably charming and slightly over-confident.

Ladies, you will easily be under their spell…

The Sideburns

Men with sideburns are often trying to find themselves. They don’t know if they want the beard or not and are still lost somewhere along the way.

The Chinstrap

Personally, I very strongly dislike it and will not post a picture :)

He probably has a bad sense of time, debatable taste and might be perverse.

Sleepless in Beirut – How to Tell a Person by their sleeping position

Last night I slept very little, partied very mildly, read very little, drank almost nothing, and had a great dinner… Still I could not fall asleep (very unlike me). Still, I decided to go trough old emails, and sort them and came across an article my little adorable cousin had sent me a while back, entitled “What does your sleep position reveal about your personality?”

I wanted to summarize it to you with its main ideas but I would have repeated the whole article, so here it is… I recommend you read it with a distracted mind because sometimes we fall asleep in one position and wake up in another… So which to choose?

Read the full article here :What does your sleep position reveal about your personality

But whatever you do, please don’t sleep like this =) :

Energetically yours,

Today When I Think of Paris and How to Read a Person by their Profile Pic

I am wondering how do the streets in Paris look like right now…

Abba’s song: “The winner takes it all” came to my mind several times today… Whether we talk about soccer, love, games or presidential elections.. It all goes back to the same idea: No one wants to be second best, or like some would call them the First Looser.

So for all those that feel they have lost something at some point here is another song to cheer you up, give you hope and mostly faith…=)  Too sexy

And for those of you that like me, ordered a decaf coffee but probably were served a not-decaf-coffee-at-all, here are some fun info about: How to read a person by their facebook profile picture? (It’s 3:00 am in my bed and I am still fully awake)

1. The Portrait: Showing the entire face and probably a big part of the upper body

You are probably normal, well-adjusted and confident, at times maybe boring too. If the photo is of you in your bathing suit, you are probably hot and insecure.

2. Far Away Picture: The person is too far away that you cannot see the person’s details

You are probably slightly shy and reserved until people get to know you.

3. The super close picture: In general the faces details cannot be seen

It is probably to hide an imperfection (acne, lazy eye, bad haircut). You probably still get teased and want to show a good impression of who you are.

4. The childhood picture

You could have looked better as a child, and maybe do not like change either. A lot of people in this category miss the past and believe that the best was greener and prettier than the present and the future.

5. The Pet Picture: Usually when the picture only shows the pet without the person

It depends on the animal but in many cases could be a sign of misplaced modesty.

6. the Wedding Photo

It is often used to show everyone you are a grown-up and would like to be treated as such.

7. The Party Picture

Today you are fun, crazy and might one day regret this picture; but today you are proud of it. You might be the type to be susceptible to peer pressure but for now you think that what you are and do is right. (I love it… Carpe Diem)

Kisses to you all social medias junkies,

Soraya

4 Women, Yummy Salads, and Feeling in a “Sex and the City” Episode

I had a fun week-end… Had a “Sex and the City”-like lunch on Saturday and fun diner with 12 people that do not know each other on Saturday night and a great sunny Sunday…

But, what most amused me on Saturday for lunch was that we were four women, with different characters, tastes and opinions ordering salads… It made me wonder: How does a choice of Salad but mostly Dressing show ones’ character?

Here is what my research shows:

Blue Cheese Dressing: This bold creamy and strong dressing usually accompanies bold strong personalities full of taste.

Vinaigrettes: This oil/vinegar dressing is generally invisible to the eye… If generally this is the dressing you order, chances are you are mysterious most of the time and adventurous some of the time

French (vinegar + mustard + salt + olive oil): If you’re a french dressing person, you probably are a straightforward person. You like simple things…

Thousand Island (eggs  + Wocestershire + sugar + vinegar + mayonnaise + black olives + red bell pepper): Also known as the Big Mac Sauce. If you like this sauce, you are probably a firm person, and have strong beliefs and are not easily swayed.

Honey Mustard: People who eat this dressing typically have salads as meals whether the salad includes meat, chicken or not.

Exotics: (like raspberry vinaigrette, cucumber onion, and peanuts jalapenos, or other similar ready made dressings): If these are the dressings you often choose, you are most probably a chic person that likes to try out the new hip restaurants, shop in the trendy places, that like to see and be seen and you are open for trying out new and exciting trends.

Balsamic Vinaigrette: This is quite a debate, because it will all depends on the type of balsamic you use. The connoisseurs might be sophisticated enough to choose one as expensive as a bottle of refined red wine. The amateurs and those that order this dressing with every salad, are usually straight to the point and  like multi-function items…

With a lot of taste,

Read into My Glass…

I just hang up the phone, after an interesting conversation… We had a long talk, the type that starts with “I wonder” and end with “Don’t worry” and stops at some jokes and amusing stories. And for the past 30minutes I’ve been listening to Coldplay and thinking about John Steinberg’s letter to his son: “Don’t worry about losing. If it is right, it happens — The main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away.”

But instead of taking you on a philosophical trip tonight, I will share with you my thoughts and research on the relationship between the drink we choose and our personality:

Men that choose Martini are trying to impress (and it’s probably working). Women drinking a dirty Martini are usually a hot mess (the messier, the hotter)

Vodka on the Rocks: Too self-conscious to actually order a Martini.

Vodka Cranberry: Men usually order this drink when they are in doubt. It comforts then and brings them back to their comfort zone  (they usually stick to what they drank in college)

White Wine: Usually entrepreneurial people. They also like being in charge.

Red Wine drinks are mature and organized.

Martguerita on the rocks: Tonight, you’ve decide to have a good time

Margarita, frozen: Usually fun-loving people.

Tequila shots: You’re enjoying the company of the people you’re with. These people are usually extrovert and have a free spirit

Bloody Mary: You enjoy good music, long walks and sometimes crazy parties.

Beer drinkers: They are experimental people and constantly creative in their thoughts and behavior. They however like to stay in touch with the roots, that is why they often choose and the bar on the corner to meet up with friends.

Prosecco: You’re usually not very easy going but tonight is your night and you feel like partying.

Whisky: You’re hot, regardless of gender

Champagne: People who order champagne at a bar when there are not special occasion, are usually sophisticated, too self-conscious, body-conscious and high maintenance.

I write this to follow on a conversation I had with 2 special people, I hope they are reading this.

Cheers,

Sober Soraya

What Your Earrings Say About You

I had my ears pierced when I was 16 and for me this day was a very important one… I was counting the days until I could remove the medical earrings and start wearing trendy ones.

A decade later, I still love wearing fun earrings and take absolutely pleasure in adapting them to my look… What does this all mean? And what do they represent?

I was doing my research when I realized that the earring you feel most comfortable wearing (or use the most often) are the one that represent you  best… I can’t know which one is mine, but will start noticing it more after this article… But for now, let me share with you some thoughts about this matter:

Women who wear Stud earrings are confident and self-reliant. They prefer elegance over fashion and take pride in their taste.

Hoops: These women are romantic and bubbly. They love life and people, and are drawn to new ideas and challenges even though they need to come back to their home and comfort zone.

Dangles:  Women who mostly wear dangles are outgoing and friendly. They speak their mind loudly and like to look feminine and attractive.

Chandelier and other large earrings: These women are always ready to go out and hang out with their friends. They are usually a lot of fun and love to appear fashionable.

Women who wear a lot of Huggies (earrings that hug the earlobe) are practical and clean cut. They are goal oriented and well put together.

I hope this post was interesting enough for you to remember to read between the lines when you meet new people but still easy enough for you not to think too long before choosing the pair you wish to wear.

Hoping you’ll have the earrings you wish for under the tree this Christmas season,

Soraya

To Wear or Not To Wear Black?

Trends come and go and we find ourselves at times wearing flashy colors, floral designs, stars or colored lace, but what has never changed is the fact that behind these trends there is always an everlasting underlying trend: Black!

I always wondered how can one color be the color of the priest, the Nazis, the fascists, the punks, the chubby, anorexics, judges and suicide bombers. It serves so many duties in very different fields… But why is that and what does it imply?

Little Facts about Black: Black is an absence of colors and attracts all the colors whereas white reflects them all. Black gives you silhouette, colors give you surface.

On the one hand, the anti-black wearers defend the idea that it is the lazy shortcut for the boring stylish who are trying to hide something.  Some also believe those who wear too often black have a secret jealousy towards men and the freedom they have. (The latter’s are not expected to have a different look everyday and are not as much judged by appearances.) They also note that those who wear a lot of black often have khaki, dusty greens or beige accessories. These are camouflage colors and again show a need to hide something or simply a small lack of confidence.

On the other hand, black-lovers say it’s easy, practical for work and elegant for parties. Today black has been associated with glamour rather than gloominess. It’s for those who want to emphasize their own individuality since black isolates the face from the rest of the body. For them, and as mentioned in an old American Vogue, Coco Chanel’s little black dress is “the uniform for all women of taste”.

There were many studies and articles written about black wearer but I guess getting to one proper conclusion is not that evident after all. I guess each one has an underground reason to wear this (none) color. I just hope it will never be for funerals of loved ones.
